SEASIDE, Calif. — Sophomore forward
McKenna Hill (Ventura/St. Bonaventure HS) continued her torrid run of late season play, this time recording her first collegiate double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in an 80-56 loss to No. 19 Humboldt State Friday night in The Kelp Bed.
Hill, who scored a career-high 21 points in her last outing, a 64-60 win at Cal State L.A., has scored in double figures in seven of her last eight games, the best run of her career. Her effort wasn't enough to slow down Humboldt State, however, which took a 1-game lead in the CCAA race thanks to its win plus a Cal State Dominguez Hills loss Friday night.
CSUMB played the Lumberjacks tough early, leading by as many as nine points in the first half. After a
Stephanie Sack (Petaluma/Santa Rosa JC) 3-pointer gave the Otters their final lead at 21-19, however, Humboldt caught fire. HSU embarked on a 13-1 run to open its first double-digit lead of the night, 32-22, and the Otters never got closer than seven the rest of the way.
In addition to Hill,
Emma Keenan (Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark HS) scored 10 points and
Nikki Beckman (Dublin/Ohlone College) passed five assists.
CSUMB closes the home portion of its 2014-15 schedule Saturday night by welcoming Cal State San Bernardino for a 5:30 p.m. tip. The Otters will honor seniors Beckman and
Jenna Bandy (Thousand Oaks HS), who will be playing their final collegiate home games, in a pregame ceremony.
GO OTTERS!
