SEASIDE, Calif. — The No. 3 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay softball team opened defensive of its CCAA title with its eighth consecutive victory and the 300th win in its 9-plus year history Friday afternoon with a 5-1 victory at Cal State San Bernardino.
The strong season-opening run for CSUMB (8-1, 1-1 CCAA) hit a bump in the road in the nightcap of the doubleheader, however, as the Coyotes (9-6, 1-1) rallied for an 11-3 win to earn a split.
Senior
Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) enjoyed a strong day. In the circle, she improved to 5-0 on the season by scattering seven hits in the opener. At the plate, she finished the day 4-for-7 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI.
First baseman
Madison Casto (Sunnyvale/Homestead HS) also continued the hot start to her sophomore campaign, running her hitting streak to 11 games dating back to last season by finishing the day 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.
CSUMB will conclude its 4-games series at San Bernardino with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Otters return home to host UC San Diego Feb. 27-28 at the Otter Sports Complex.
