SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — To borrow a golf phrase, the No. 3 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team built two snowmen Saturday afternoon to sweep a doubleheader from Cal State San Bernardino 8-0 and 8-4 at Coyote Park. The opening win came in six innings via the run rule, CSUMB's (10-1, 3-1 CCAA) sixth such victory in 11 games this season.
Ten different Otters claimed hits as CSUMB bats pounded 29 of them in the twinbill. Sophomore designated player
Bianca Noriega (Ventura/Camarillo HS) led the way with six knocks in seven at bats, including a 4-for-4 performance in the nightcap. She doubled in the opener before adding her fourth home run of the season in game two, finishing the day with three runs and three RBIs.
Joining Noriega in the long ball club Saturday were sophomore
Madison Casto (Sunnyvale/Homestead HS), who ran her hitting streak to 14 games dating back to last season,
Anneliese Lopez (Ventura/Buena HS) who hit her second of the season and
Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) and
Katie Ramos (Placentia/El Dorado HS), who each hit their first.
For her part, Lopez added three doubles on the afternoon while Reinhardt and
Vanessa Avila (Dana Point Santiago Canyon CC) each doubled in both games.
In the circle, junior
Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS) was masterful in the opener, allowing just two hits while fanning five in her second shutout of the season. Reinhardt, meanwhile, allowed four runs in the first inning of the nightcap before tossing 6 1/3 innings of 1-hit, shutout ball the rest of the way to improve to 6-0 on the season.
After playing nine consecutive games away from home, the Otters return to the friendly confines of the Otter Sports Complex to host UC San Diego for a pair of doubleheaders Feb. 27-28.
GO OTTERS!
