LAS VEGAS — Cal State Monterey Bay saw its school record streak of winning via the run rule end Sunday afternoon, but the Otters couldn't have cared less after avenging last season NCAA Super Regional loss by upending No. 3 Dixie State 4-2 to close play at the Desert Stinger Classic at Majestic Park.
It was the only time the No. 10 Otters are scheduled to play Dixie in the regular season, which could have big implications when the NCAA begins ranking teams for postseason consideration in April. The win runs CSUMB}s regular season winning streak to 12 games dating back to April 7 of last year.
Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) threw a stellar game for the win. She scattered four hits and allowed just two unearned runs to improve to 4-0 on the season..
At the plate, senior third baseman
Alissa Greenhaw (Galt HS) lined a 2-out, bases-loaded double to right field to cap a 4-run first inning. The Otters threatened on several other occasions but couldn't break through again.
It didn't matter with Reinhardt dealing. She fanned four while only two of the four Red Storm hits to leave the infield.
In addition to Greenhaw,
Madison Casto (Sunnyvale/Homestead HS) led the Otter offense by going 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Reinhardt added a walk, a single and scored in the big first inning.
CSUMB returns to California to begin CCAA play with a 4-game series at Cal State San Bernardino. The Otters return home to host UC San Diego Apr. 27-28.
GO OTTERS!
