LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team stayed close to No. 23 UC San Diego for a good part of the evening, but the Tritons eased away down the stretch to take a 74–60 decision in RIMAC Arena.
The Otters struggled to find an offensive rhythm, but played enough defense to head into the half down just 35–30. Although the solid defense continued after the break, seven third-quarter turnovers kept the Otters from biting into the Triton lead. Both teams heated up down the stretch, but UCSD won the final quarter by five to account for the final margin.
Victoria Dorn (Marina/Seaside HS) and
Jazmine Johnson (Garden Grove/Santa Ana College) led the Otters with 11 and 10 points respectively. But it wasn't enough to offset a 26-point, 15-rebound double–double from Farrah Shokoor.
The Otters will head to Davis for an exhibition against at Big West Conference member UC Davis Sunday before returning to The Kelp Bed to host Stanislaus State Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
