MONMOUTH, Ore. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team had a 1–to–2 assist/turnover ratio in an upsetting 67-79 loss to Western Oregon at the Western Oregon Tournament on Friday night.
While the Otters shot 49% from the field (24-49), the Wolves trumped that hitting 51.8% of their shots (29-56). However, CSUMB did out rebound WOU 30-28, but committed seven more turnovers than the hosts.
The slow start did not help the Otters either as they trailed by seven before the first media timeout. CSUMB trailed by as many as 18 with 9:33 left in the second half.
Evan Zeller (Mission Viejo HS) led CSUMB with 13 points, while
Alex Fertig (Fresno, Calif./Buchanan HS) contributed 10 points. Two wolves recorded 20 points each to lead all scorers while Devon Alexander chipped in 10.
CSUMB falls to an 0–3 start. Monterey Bay will remain in Monmouth for it's second game of the Western Oregon Tournament on Saturday when they take on Saint Martin's at 5 p.m.
