SEASIDE, Calif. -- With 21 seconds remaining, the Cal State Monterey Bay Men's Soccer team set up for a corner kick by
Adam Voloder (Sydney/Aust.). The entry ball found the head of
Jorge Herrera (San Jose, Calif./Leland HS) and the ball found the net for the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon.
SSU was on top after the first 45 minutes after Andrew Olgilvy scored in the 43rd minute. However, the Otters came back in the second half and played stout defense allowing
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif./Ygnacio Valley HS) to score his first goal of the season to knot the score at 1-1.
All was quiet for the next 24 minutes until Herrera's heroics lifted the Otters over the Seawolves with 10 seconds left in the game. While SSU tried to get any kind of shot off in the final ticks, it was all for naught as CSUMB secured the 2-1 victory.
It was the first goal of the season for both Ayala and Herrera as the Otters now have 10 different players in the scoring column.
Evan Drake (Sacramento, Calif./El Camino HS) contributed six saves in the winning effort.
CSUMB improves its record to 7-2, 4-1 CCAA. Monterey Bay will head south for a matchup against UC San Diego on Friday, October 9 at 7p.m.
GO OTTERS!
