SEASIDE, Calif. -- The majority of the action took place in the second half of Sunday's game vs. Cal State L.A. as the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team would have to play from behind.
CSULA got on the board in the 69th minute and put the Otters in a 0-1 hole. However, as time was expiring and a man short,
Matt Kemp (Boston, Lincolnshire, England / Haven High Academy) netted the tying goal with a mere three seconds left in regulation.Â
Shortly into the second overtime period, the Otters would receive their second red card of the game and would have to attempt to stop the Eagles with nine men on the field. CSUMB made it through the first OT and even made two shots, but in the second OT a rebounded ball found CSULAs Shahin Hemat as he was able to fire a shot passed the Otter defense and win the game for CSULA.
Evan Drake (Sacramento, Calif./El Camino HS) tied a season-high in saves once again with 7, including an impressive penalty kick save that saved the game for the moment.
CSUMB is now 7-6, 4-5 CCAA. Monterey Bay will face Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, October 23 at 3 p.m.
