Otters Wrap Up CCAA Title With Sweep Of Coyotes

Cori Reinhardt tossed 10 1/3 innings of shutout ball Saturday, including a 2-hitter in the opener, to lead CSUMB to the sweep.

(Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS), Courtney Varela (Harbor City/Torrance HS) bunted back to Luhman. With Coyote second baseman Thalia Ortiz late covering first base, Luhman's only play was to second, but Arterburn beat the throw.
Luhman recovered to fan pinch hitter Brittani Newman (Hollister/San Benito HS) to bring Reinhardt to the plate with two outs.

Reinhardt worked the count full before blooping a soft fly ball into short center. Shortstop Nicole Nobbe couldn't find the ball in a tough sky and Darian Manuz was a fraction of a second late knifing in from left field. By the time the dust settled, both Arterburn and Varela crossed home and the Otters were six outs away from the title.

Reinhardt allowed just one ball to leave the infield in a spotless final two innings to secure the title.

"I'm so proud of what this squad has accomplished," says CSUMB Head Coach Andrea Kenney (@Andrea_Kenney). "This is an amazing group. It all starts with our leadership. Non of this would have been possible without Cori, Nicole Pires and Danica Arterburn.

The Otters will be the No. 1 seed in next week's CCAA Championship Tournament and will face No. 4 seed Sonoma State (35–19) in its tournament opener. Humboldt State (currently 43–11) will be the No. 2 seed and face No. 3 seed UC San Diego (33–14) in the other half of the double elimination bracket.
