LOS ANGELES — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team didn't make its first field goal until more than nine minutes had elapsed Saturday night at Cal State L.A. On a night when the Otters would go on to miss 17 free throws, that slow start proved too much to overcome in a 65–51 loss to CSULA in The Eagles' Nest.
Despite their slow start, the Otters managed to pull to within 34–21 by halftime. The Golden Eagles pulled away more slowly to start the second half, using a gradual 20–9 run in the first 10 minutes after intermission to build their biggest lead at 21 points, 51–30. CSUMB never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
Freshman forward
Isaiah Smith (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River HS) came off the bench to lead CSUMB with a season–high 12 points on 5–of–8 shooting from the floor.
Jorey Scott (Reno, Nev./Miramar College) returned to the starting lineup after a 4–game absence and pulled down a team–high seven rebounds.
CSUMB stays on the road to conclude its 4–game trip at Cal Poly Pomona (Feb. 6) and Humboldt State (Feb. 8). The Otters return home to host UC San Diego on Friday, Feb. 14.
GO OTTERS!
