Otters, Porteous Find Success In Overtime vs. CSUDH

Wangerin gets her first goal of the season, Porteous nets sixth including game winner in OT

Carson, Calif. — In their first overtime win since 2012, Regan Porteous (Lodi, Calif./St. Mary's HS) and the Cal State Monterey Bay Women's Soccer team found pay dirt in the 98' minute of the first overtime period securing a 2-1 victory against Cal State Dominguez Hills at University Field in Carson, Calif. on Sunday afternoon. In CSUMB's last OT win, it was Porteous who netted the winning goal against Cal State L.A. two seasons prior.

Twenty-five minutes into the game, Soshana Wangerin (Pleasant Hill, Calif./College Park HS) picked up the rebounded shot from Kristen Womack (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek HS) and proceeded to fire it into back of the net for her first goal of the season to put the Otters on the board with a 1-0 lead.  Almost 20 minutes later, in the 43rd minute, the Toros' Johana Rosas evened the score at 1-1 to send the match into halftime.

"It was a battle between two good teams today," Said head coach Erin Reinke. "We found a way to win our first overtime game this season.  Hopefully we will keep this momentum going into next weekend."

Neither side would be able to net a goal in the second half, sending the match to the sudden-death overtime.  Cal State Monterey Bay sent the hosts home heart-broken eight minutes into OT when Porteous took the assist from Cate Bagacina (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Aliso Niguel HS). After a pass around a defender, Porteous saw herself with a 1–v–1 with the goalkeeper and placed it around her for her sixth goal of season, and second overtime goal of her career.

"Overtime was fought for, there was heart and urgency due to heat and tired bodies," Porteous explained, "the girls dug deep to our momentum and we came out with a win that we deserved and needed."

The Otters improve it's record to 6–5–0, 3–3–0 CCAA, while the Toros fall to 1–11–1, 1–5–0 CCAA.  Cal State Monterey Bay returns home next Friday, October 17 to face UC San Diego.  Kick off is slatted for 3:00 p.m.
