SEASIDE, Calif. — After knocking on the door several times, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team burst through for its first CCAA win of the season Saturday night, riding
Alexous Robinson's first double–double to a convincing 50–36 win over visiting Sonoma State in The Kelp Bed.
Robinson registered career highs of 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Otters raced to a 33–16 halftime lead. In fact, when
Chezla Self (Sacramento/S.J. Delta College) knocked down a 3–pointer to make it 28–16 CSUMB with 1:25 to play in the first half, the CSUMB lead grew to 28–16 and never dipped into single digits again.
The Otters dominated the glass, grabbing 50 rebounds for the first time this season while out–rebounding the Seawolves 50–35. The Otter defense, meanwhile, suffocated the Sonoma interior game, effectively stifling an offense that went a CSUMB opponent record–low 0–for–18 from 3–point range.
In addition to Robinson, who added a CSUMB team season–high four blocks to her double–double, the Otters got a team season–high and career–high seven assists from
Angelique Bailey (Fontana/Etiwanda HS) and three steals apiece from Bailey and Self. Freshman
Victoria Dorn (Marina/Seaside HS) came off the bench to chip in nine points in 13 minutes.
CSUMB hits the road four its second 4–game road trip of the month when it heads to Southern California to face Cal State Dominguez Hills (Jan. 31) and Cal State L.A. (Feb. 1) next weekend. The Otters return to The Kelp Bed to host UC San Diego Feb. 15
