In addition to playing a flawless third base, Theresa Torres collected her first hit of the season with a single against Hawaii Pacific Sunday.
BOX SCORE
TURLOCK, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team found itself stranded Sunday afternoon, wasting opportunity after opportunity in a 2–0 loss to Hawaii Pacific in the Silver Bracket semifinals of the 2013 Mizuno Tournament of Champions at Pedretti Park.
CSUMB (24–19 overall) left 15 runners on base—including the bases loaded in both the sixth and seventh innings—and had two other thrown out on the base paths. Freshman hurler
Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS) kept the Otters in the game by striking out six in 5 2/3 innings of work before HPU (22–14) string together three consecutive two–out hits in the top of the sixth to account for the only runs of the game.
Sophomore
Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly HS), playing second base for the first time this season, extended her streak of reaching base safely to 44 games by drawing a pair of walks. She finished the day 0–for–2 at the plate, however, and her career–best hitting streak ended at 15 games.
Reinhardt also came on in relief of Clarkson in the sixth and pitched 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief. She finished tournament play 7–for–17 (.412) with three doubles, one home run and five RBIs to earn all–tournament honors for the second consecutive season.
CSUMB returns to CCAA play next week when it concludes its 16–game conference roadtrip with a four–game set at San Francisco State beginning Friday, April 12..
