SEASIDE, Calif. — After the offense exploded for 32 runs in last weekend's four–game sweep at Cal State San Bernardino, the Cal State Monterey Bay pitchers took center stage Friday, limiting Dominican University to five hits and one run in a 4–0, 10–1 sweep at the Otter Sports Complex.

Sophomore Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) tossed a four–hit shutout in the opener but still was upstaged by freshman Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS), who needed just five innings to fan a season–high 10 Penguins while tossing her first collegiate one–hitter in the nightcap.

Both pitchers also had big days at the plate. Reinhardt extended her consecutive games reaching base streak to 32 games, finishing Friday's twinbill 3–for–6 with three runs and a pair of RBI doubles. Clarkson, meanwhile, went 3–for–3 with a triple and four RBIs in game two.

Dominican junior Karly Harris matched Reinhardt pitch for pitch through three innings of the opener. But a pair of Otter singles and a Penguin error in the fourth set the table for Vanessa Avila's (Dana Point/Santiago Canyon CC) sacrifice fly that provided Reinhardt with the only run she would need.

Dominican threatened to break through in the top of the sixth, loading the bases with one out on an infield single, an error and a hit batter. But Reinhardt worked out of her only jam of the game by fanning Samantha Talavera and coaxing a pop fly from Ashlyn Moriarty.

The Otters broke the game open in their half of the sixth when Angelina Orozco's (Clovis East HS) lead off triple led to RBI doubles from pinch hitter Renelle Traylor (Hayward/Ohlone College) and Reinhardt in a three–run inning that iced the game.

An RBI double from Reinhardt (she would later score by stealing home) and a two–run single by Clarkson staked CSUMB to a 4–0 lead after the opening frame of game two. Lauren Ermitano (Hayward/Ohlone College) doubled home another run in the second before Danica Arterburn's (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) book double plated two more to give the Otters a 7–1 lead through three.

That was more support than Clarkson needed to earn her seventh win of the season. She twice struck out the side and retired eight in a row to end the game. Her lone mistake came in the second inning when second baseman Kayleigh Klingberg led off with her fifth home run of the season for what proved to be the only Penguin hit in the game.

In addition to Reinhardt, Traylor and Skyler Valdivia (Beaumont HS) hit safely in both games for the Otters, who improved to 18–13 with Friday's sweep.
Klingberg led Dominican (5–25) by finishing the day 2–for–5. Kayla Rodriguez and Leslie Mesa had the other Penguin hits.

CSUMB will take the weekend off before hitting the road again next weekend for a four–game set at Chico State Mar. 29–30. The Otters return home to host 2012 NCAA Regional qualifier Montana State–Billings for a doubleheader on April 2.
