SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. —
Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) completed a triumphant return to her old stomping grounds Saturday, giving a tour de force performance to lead the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team to a 10–1 (6 inn.), 13–4 (5 inn.) sweep of Cal State San Bernardino at Coyote Park.
Reinhardt had a double, a triple and her first home run of the season in the opener to support her own four–hit effort in the circle as the Otters cruised to the run–rule win. She added her second home run of the day in the first inning of game two before tossing a perfect fifth inning to close out the doubleheader and series sweep of the Coyotes. CSUMB defeated San Bernardino 3–1 and 6–1 Friday with Reinhardt picking up a win and a save.
She finished the doubleheader 4–for–6 at the plate with five runs and six RBIs. In the circle, she allowed just four hits and one run in seven innings.
Reinhardt was far from the only Otter hero Saturday, however, as several Otter hitters enjoyed big days.
Lauren Ermitano (Hayward/Ohlone College) also went 4–for–6 while adding her team–leading fourth home run of the season. Junior second baseman
Vanessa Avila (Dana Point/Santiago Canyon CC) added three hits and four RBIs. Senior center fielder
Angelina Orozco (Clovis East HS) ran her current hitting streak to six games with three hits, three runs and two RBIs.
Big innings were the theme for CSUMB as the Otter offense produced three or more runs in six of the 11 innings played Saturday. CSUMB took control of game one early by scoring three in both the first and second innings then finished off the Coyotes with a four–run sixth.
In game two, the Otters scored three in the first and six in the third inning to push the Coyotes to the brink. A four–run fourth inning brought the game into run–rule territory and Reinhardt's dominance in the circle made for a quite conclusion to an explosive afternoon.
CSUMB (16–13, 11–9 CCAA) takes a break from conference action next week to host PacWest Conference rival Dominican University Friday, Mar. 4 for a noon doubleheader at the Otter Sports Complex.
GO OTTERS!
