SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Two solid pitching performances, aided by some timely power from the offense, carried the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team to a 3–1, 6–1 sweep of Cal State San Bernardino in the series–opening doubleheader Friday at Coyote Park.

CSUMB (14–13, 9–9 CCAA) got a complete game three–hitter from sophomore Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) in the opener before Reinhardt and freshman Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS combined to limit San Bernardino to a single run in the nightcap.

Reinhardt pushed her streak of games reaching base safely to 27 with a double in the opener and a walk in game two. But pitching was her calling card Friday. She fanned five Coyotes against no walks for her fifth complete game allowing three or fewer hits and her seventh win of the season in game one.

She came on in relief of Clarkson in the sixth inning of the nightcap, striking out two more Coyotes to earn her first save. For her part, Clarkson improved to 5–3 by allowing just one run on six hits in five innings of work.

The CSUMB offense, meanwhile, used a rare burst of power to support the solid Otter pitching. Junior first baseman Lauren Ermitano (Hayward/Ohlone College) gave Reinhardt all the support she would need with a 2–run homer, her third of the season, in the first inning of the opener. Freshman Bianca Noriega (Ventura/Camarillo HS) clubbed her first collegiate home run in the nightcap to highlight the 10–hit Otter attack.

Senior center fielder Angelina Orozco (Clovis East HS) led the CSUMB offense with four hits Friday, including three singles in the opener and double leading off game two. Clarkson added a pair of hits in a pair of RBIs in support of her winning pitching performance in game two.

CSUMB and San Bernardino will close their four–game series with a doubleheader Saturday at Coyote Park. The Otters return home to host Dominican (Calif.) University in a nonconference doubleheader on Mar. 22.
