ARCATA, Calif. — Sophomore All–American Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) ran her streak of reaching base safely to 25 games to open the season to help the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team earn a doubleheader split at Humboldt State Sunday afternoon. CSUMB won the opener 4–3 before Humboldt rallied for an 8–3 victory in game two.

Reinhardt went 3–for–6 with a pair of walks on the day, raising her batting average to .449 and her on base percentage to .536. She drove in a run in game two to raise her league–leading RBI total to 27.

After going 40 innings without scoring multiple runs, the Otters opened game one with a crooked number for the second time in their last three innings by jumping to a 3–0 lead in the first. Humboldt fought its way back against freshman hurler Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS) by scoring single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings to tie the game.

Lauren Erimitano (Hayward/Ohlone College) made Clarkson a winner in the seventh, driving home Vanessa Avila (Dana Point/Santiago Canyon JC) with a two–out single after Avila walked to lead off the inning.

Senior center fielder Angelina Orozco (Clovis East HS) led off game two with her first double of the season and came around to score on a Humboldt error to stake the Otters to an early 1–0 lead. But a grand slam by Casey Hiatt in the third inning erased that advantage before the Lumberjacks added two more long balls in the game en route to the 8–3 win.

In addition to Reinhardt, Orozco and sophomore catcher Nicole Pires (Ontario/Colony HS) also hit safely in both games for CSUMB.

The Otters return to action Friday, beginning the final leg of their current eight–game roadtrip with a doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino. The Otters return home to host PacWest Conference rival Dominican University Mar. 22 at the Otter Sports Complex.
