BOX SCORE

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team opened its weekend with an overtime game for the third consecutive week Thursday night. After dropping the first two on the road, the third time proved to be a charm as the Otters rallied from a 14–point halftime deficit to defeat Cal State Stanislaus 90–88 in overtime at The Kelp Bed.

Kevin Loustale (Chico/Shasta College) muscled home a layup with 1:49 remaining in overtime to account for the final margin. Stanislaus had a shot to win at the buzzer, but a running three–point attempt by Sam Marcus didn't come close.

Many Otters wore the hero's mantle Thursday, led by Loustale who scored six of CSUMB's seven points in extra time and finished with 19. Senior guard Brandon Ward (Riverside/Woodcrest HS) posted his third consecutive 20–plus point game, leading all scorers with 24 points.

Senior forward Derrick Anderson (Pittsburg HS) just missed his first double–double of the season, finishing with 10 points and a game–high nine rebounds.

The game began at a frenetic pace that didn't let up for the entire 45 minutes. The teams exchanged haymakers in a first half that featured 13 lead changes before Stanislaus landed the first serious blow, ending the period on a 17–6 run to take a 51–37 lead into the lockerroom.

The Warriors yielded their advantage grudgingly. The Otters kept chipping away but couldn't draw even until Ward knifed into the lane to collect a missed Loustale free throw and lay it in to tie the game at 71–71 with just over with eight minutes remaining.

Stanislaus responded with four straight points to reclaim the lead before a Coley Apsay (Santa Clarita/Canyon HS) jumper ignited a rapid–fire 10–0 run that gave CSUMB its biggest lead of the night, 81–75, barely two minutes later. The Warriors finally caught the Otters at 83–83 on a Marcus jumper in the lane with 63 seconds to play and that's the way regulation ended.

The Warriors grabbed their final lead of the night at 88–86 on a Marcus Walters jumper with 2:26 remaining. But Loustale got a short jumper in the lane to fall 16 seconds later before knocking down the game–winner on CSUMB's next possession.

Clinton Tremelling came off the bench to make four three–pointers as part of his team–high 18 points for Stanislaus. Wes Bartole added 17 points and matched Anderson for game–high rebounding honors with nine.
The Otters will close their 2012–13 schedule Friday night by hosting Chico State for a 7:30 p.m. tip in The Kelp Bed.
