HAYWARD, Calif. — The No. 23 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team split its second consecutive doubleheader with Cal State East Bay, falling 3–2 in 10 innings before coming back to blow out the Pioneers 9–1 in the nightcap Saturday at Pioneer Field.
Saturday's first loss was a bitter pill to swallow as the Otters took a 2–1 into the bottom of the 10th only to see a two–out error lead to a pair of unearned runs and a 3–2 loss.
The Otter offense finally got in gear in the series finale, scoring three early runs in support of freshman
Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS), who tossed a five–hitter to improve to 3–1.
Center fielder
Angelina Orozco (Clovis East HS) and shortstop
Mariah Nisbet (San Ramon/Ohlone College) led the Otter attack with five hits apiece. Orozco had two hits in the opener and three in the nightcap. Nisbet did the reverse.
Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) allowed only one earned run in 9 2/3 innings to take the hard–luck loss in the opener. She also reached base safely in both games—finishing the day with a double and two walks—and has now reached safely in all 17 games to start the season.
CSUMB (10–7, 5–3 CCAA) returns home to host defending West Region champion UC San Diego in a four–game series beginning with a Friday doubleheader at the Otter Sports Complex.
GO OTTERS!
