HAYWARD, Calif. — Sophomore pitcher
Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) won her third consecutive start with offensive help from
Vanessa Avila (Dana Point/Santiago Canyon College) to earn a doubleheader split at Cal State East Bay Friday on Pioneer Field. East Bay took the opener 4-2 before the Otters came back for a 6–2 win in the nightcap.
Reinhardt (5–4) threw four shutout innings as the CSUMB offense, led by three hits and three RBIs from Avila, built a 4–0 lead. East Bay got single runs in the fourth and fifth to make it closer, but Reinhardt bought her own insurance policy with a two–run double in the top of the seven before setting the Pioneers down in order to finish the win.
In the opener, freshman
Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS) fanned seven Pioneers in the opener, but she yielded a 3–run homer to Vika Kafoa in the second inning and that proved lethal. The Otters responded with two in the third inning, but that's all they would get.
Reinhardt led the Otter offense by going 4–for–7 with a double and four RBIs. Avila went 3–for–3 and
Skyler Valdivia (Beaumont HS) went 2–for–3 in game two.
CSUMB (9–6, 4–2 CCAA) and
East Bay (3–9, 1–5) will conclude their four–game series with a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
GO OTTERS!
