SEASIDE, Calif. — After Friday's, shall we say, nontraditional split with Cal State Stanislaus in which the teams combined for 36 walks, Cal State Monterey Bay sophomore All–American Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) responded with a dominating performance Saturday, throwing a 4–hit shutout and a 2–hit shutout to lead the Otters to an 8–0 (6 inn.) and 2–0 sweep of Stanislaus at the Otter Sports Complex.

No. 17 CSUMB improved to 8–5 overall and 3–1 in the CCAA with the wins. Stanislaus dipped to 6–6 and 1–3.

“I'm proud of the way we bounced back today against a much improved Stanislaus team,” said CSUMB Head Coach Andrea Kenney. “And I can't say enough about the way Cori responded. She showed today why she's a first team All–American.”

After walking the leadoff batter in game one, Reinhardt settled in to allow just four hits the rest of the way while striking out seven. She gave herself ample offensive support by driving in two runs with an RBI single and a sac fly. She also walked twice.

In game two, she was even more dominant. She didn't allow a hit until Cierrah Mullins led off the fourth by legging out an infield single. Stanislaus didn't manage another hit until Lauren Liming beat out a slow chopper to short to open the seventh. But Reinhardt quickly atoned for that by striking out Kristan Burns before inducing a game–ending double play to tidy things up and secure her fourth win.

At the plate, Reinhardt provided her own artillery support. She tripled and scored on a Lauren Ermitano (Hayward/Ohlone College) single in the fourth then doubled and scored her own insurance run on an Ermitano sac fly in the sixth.

CSUMB jumped out early in game one, scoring five runs in the first three innings. The Otters scored the only runs they would need in the first when Angelina Orozco (Clovis East HS) and Skyler Valdivia (Beaumont HS) led off with singles before coming around to score on a Reinhardt sac fly and a wild pitch respectively. CSUMB added another run in the third on a Mariah Nisbet (San Ramon/Ohlone College) single, a Nicole Pires (Ontario/Colony HS) sac and a Stanislaus error.

Lindsay Clarkson's (Fresno/Central HS) two–run double made it 5–0 in the third. Danica Arterburn (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) added an RBI double in the fifth inning before run–scoring singles from Reinhardt and Ermitano ended the game via run–rule in the sixth.

For the afternoon, Reinhardt led the Otter offense by going 3–for–4 with a double, a triple, three runs and two RBIs. Ermitano added two hits and two RBIs while Valdivia collected three hits and scored three runs in the opener.

CSUMB hits the road next weekend for a four–game set at Cal State East Bay Feb. 23–24. The Otters return home to host UC San Diego, opening a four–game series against the Tritons with a doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 1.
