CSUMB outshot the Pioneers 11-5

BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team held its own against Cal State East Bay throughout a tough fought match, but was unable to notch the victory as the Pioneers scored a late goal to earn a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

The Otters drop to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in conference action, while the Pioneers improved to 4-4-1 (2-4-1 CCAA).

CSUMB's best chance came in the 15th minute. After being awarded an indirect kick after the Pioneer keeper was called for a handball outside the penalty box, senior Korie Soares crushed a shot, which was blocked by the Pioneer wall.

The Pioneers clinched the win in the 82nd minute when Shianna Falk took a lead pass from Kara Yamamoto and tapped it past CSUMB's keeper Diana Zambrano (La Puente, Calif./Mt. SAC).

The Otters were unable to score despite having more than double the number of shots than East Bay, finishing with dominating 11-5 advantage.  Soares led CSUMB with three shots.

CSUMB continues its three-game homestand on Friday, Oct. 5, hosting Cal State Stanislaus at 12:30 p.m.
