Senior Max Brixey led the Otter offense with four shots in Saturday's season-opner at Fresno Pacific.
BOX SCORE
FRESNO, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer 2012 season got off to a bit of rocky start Saturday night as the Otters fell at Pac West conference foe Fresno Pacific 3–0.
FPU (1–1 overall) claimed the only goal it would need in the 40th minute when Fabricio Nazare finished a deflected shot by Paul Islas from the middle of the penalty area. Islas put the game out of reach by scoring on a pair of breakaways eight minutes apart early in the second half.
Statistically, the game played fairly level. FPU held a 21–16 edge in shots while CSUMB led in corner kick opportunities 7–6. Otter senior
Cory Calder (S. Lake Tahoe HS/Cabrillo College) made five saves. Sunbird keeper Steven Waite needed just two saves to earn the clean sheet.
CSUMB returns to action Friday (Sept. 7) to host Sonoma State in its home California Collegiate Athletic Association season opener. Kickoff is scheduled for three p.m. as the nightcap of men's/women's doubleheader action.
GO OTTERS!
