The Otters embark on a five-match roadtrip starting this weekend at Chico State (Friday) and Cal State Stanislaus (Sunday).
SEASIDE, Calif. -- With only 14 games on the California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule due to Humboldt State's self-imposed hiatus, every match carries added significance in 2012. That means the five game roadtrip on which the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team is about to embark could play a starring role in the Otters' season highlight film.
"I told the boys that the season comes down to these next five games,” says CSUMB Head Coach
Rob Cummings. “We don't have to go 5-0, but we need to have success. If we come out of this trip .500 or better, we will be in great shape."

OTTER MEN'S SOCCER ODDS & ENDS
FOR HOME OPENERS: CSUMB's 4–3 setback to Sonoma State last week leaves the Otters at 2–6–1 in home openers at the NCAA Division II level.
THE TEAM HOME HAT TRICK: The Otters' three–goal outburst Friday against Sonoma State marked just the eighth time they have scored at least three goals in a home match at the NCAA Division II level (2004 to present). In the previous two seasons, the Otters reached that mark at home just once, posting three against Humboldt State on Oct. 16, 2011.
RECORD WATCH: Senior
Max Brixey scored his eighth career goal Friday against Sonoma State to take sole possession of the No. 4 spot on the CSUMB NCAA Division II career list. His 26 total points place him at No. 4 on that list as well. Senior forward
Andrew Breault picked up his 10th career assist against Sonoma, moving him into a tie with Brixey and
Nic Torricelli (2005–09) for the No. 3 spot on that list.
TAKING THEIR SHOTS: It's still early, but the Otter offense is taking its shots at a near record pace. So far in 2012, CSUMB is averaging 13.5 shots per match. The school record in that category is 13.65 spm taken by the 2007 team that reached the CCAA Tournament.
OTTERS PICKED FOURTH IN NORTH: The CCAA preseason coaches poll predicts the Otters will finish fourth in the CCAA North Division race — precisely where they finished in 2011. The Otter also were among those schools receiving votes to earn a berth in the CCAA Championship Tournament.
