BOX SCORE

ARCATA, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team dug itself an early hole it simply couldn't climb out of in a 93-73 loss at Humboldt State Saturday night in Lumberjack Arena.

Junior guard Brandon Ward (Riverside/Woodcrest HS) finished off a strong weekend, following Thursday's 31-point explosion at Sonoma State with 21 points. Derrick Anderson (Pittsburg HS) and Kevin Loustale (Chico HS/Shasta College) each added 11 points and six rebounds.

The Otters played Humboldt to a standstill after the opening stanza, tying the Lumberjacks 43-43 in the second half. But Humboldt raced to a 50-30 lead at intermission. CSUMB opened the second half on a 14-4 run to get back to within 10 at 54-44 but couldn't get any closer.

CSUMB returns to action Friday when it hosts Cal Poly Pomona in The Kelp Bed for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
