Seniors Diana Zambrano (00), Lacey Atkinson (9), Brianna Baszak (11), Korie Soares (4), Andrea Davis (12) and Lindsey Gatlin (25) played their final collegiate matches Sunday vs. UC San Diego.
BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team saw its historic season come to an end Sunday, falling to the Tritons of UC San Diego 2-0 at the Otter Sports Complex.
CSUMB finished with eight wins and five CCAA victories, topping the previous program record of five and three respectively.
The Otters came out strong, getting the first shot of the contest on a missile from senior
Andrea Davis that UCSD keeper Kelcie Brodsky deflected in the air and caught.
The Tritons got on the board in the 23rd minute as Izzy Pozurama's scored on a rebound from Cassie Callahan's shot that was blocked by Otter keeper
Diana Zambrano (La Puente, Calif./Mt. SAC).
CSUMB closed out the first half by keeping the ball on the UCSD side for the final ten minutes.
After a foul in the box in the 87th minute, UCSD's Ellen Wilson converted on a penalty kick to make it 2-0.
The Otters had a 10-8 shot advantage with Davis, junior
Shoshana Wangerin and senior
Lindsey Gatlin each recording two shots apiece. Seniors
Korie Soares and
Gabriella Bozzo join freshmen
Regan Porteous and
Kristen Womack with one shot each.
Zambrano racked up three saves while UCSD's finished with five.
Sunday's game marked the final collegiate appearance for seven CSUMB seniors:
