Otters celebrate after scoring a goal.
BOX SCORE HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State Monterey Bay senior midfielder
Andrea Davis scored in the 89th minute to lift the Otters to a 1-0 CCAA women's soccer victory at Cal State East Bay Sunday.
"In the first half, we didn't play to our potential," said Head Coach
Erin Reinke. "But the second half we kept the intensity level high in every position and played very good soccer."
The young Otter squad (8-7, 5-7 CCAA) raised their season total wins to eight, layering on to its already best season in program history. The Pioneers dropped to 6-9-1 and 2-9-1 in conference action.
Junior
Shoshana Wangerin and freshman
Regan Porteous combined to slip the ball across the frame of the goal for Davis who finished it from seven yards out.
By holding CSUEB scoreless, senior
Diana Zambrano (La Puente, Calif./Mt. SAC) became the all-time program leader in shutouts in a season and career by raising her total to four in 2012.
The Otters reached double-digits in shots for the ninth time this season, outshooting the Pioneers 11-8. Senior
Korie Soares led all shot attempts with five.
"We created some great chances and finally finished a well-developed team goal," Reinke said. "We will carry this momentum into our last home weekend for the seniors."
CSUMB returns home for its final weekend series of 2012, hosting Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Oct. 26. The Otters conclude the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 28 in a match-up against No. 12 UC San Diego.
