The Otters head to the Bay area for their final roadtrip of the season this weekend at San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay.
SEASIDE, Calif. -- After coming up with its best result of the season in last Saturday's win at Sonoma State, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team will look to build on its momentum this weekend when it heads to the Bay area to tackle San Francisco State (Oct. 19) and Cal State East Bay (Oct. 21).
“Like I said on Saturday, the win at Sonoma was a team win,” says CSUMB Head Coach Rob Cummings. “We did a great job minimizing mistakes and not allowing any extended lulls in our play. (This) weekend is an opportunity for us to build on that before we come home for two playoff-like games to end the season.”
After playing on the road this weekend, the Otters return home to host Cal State San Bernardino Friday, Oct. 26 and UC San Diego Sunday, Oct. 28. Both matches figure to have significant playoff ramifications.

Nate Torricelli and Eric Alsop scored as CSUMB earned its first win against a nationally-ranked opponent, beating No. 7 Sonoma State 2–0 on Oct. 16, 2009.
OTTER MEN'S SOCCER ODDS & ENDS
THEY WERE FRAMED: Through the first half of Sunday's match at Sonoma State, the Otters had gone 12 shots and two–plus matches without putting a ball on frame. That turned around in the second half, however, as CSUMB found the target with two of its three shots in the period, including the match–winner by Servando Perez.
RECORD WATCH: The assist by Andrew Breault Sunday at Sonoma State gave the senior forward 21 points for his career. That puts him in sole possession of fifth on the CSUMB career scoring list. Fellow senior Max Brixey is No. 4 on that list with 26 career points.
GIVE THAT BOY A HAND: The aforementioned assist by Andrew Breault was the 11th of his career, moving him past Max Brixey and Nic Torricelli into sole possession of third place on the Otter career list.
LIVING THE CLEAN LIFE: Freshman goalkeeper Evan Drake posted his second clean sheet of the season in Sunday's 1–0 win at Sonoma. He becomes just the sixth keeper in CSUMB history to post two shutouts in a season. Only Brendan Baca (4 times twice, 3 times once) and Sam Campanelli (3 in 2011) have recorded more shutouts in a single season).
WORKING HARD OR HARDLY WORKING? The Otters finally experienced overtime for the first time in 2012, needing three extra minutes to beat Cal State East Bay on Sept. 30. It's just the third time the Otters reached the 11–match mark without playing multiple overtime games. CSUMB has averaged four overtime matches per season since joining forces with the NCAA in 2004. The Otters have never gone a season without playing into overtime.
