BOX SCORE

SEASIDE, Calif. — Taking care of the ball has been the biggest bugaboo for the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team. Shooting, on the other hand, has not.

Friday night in The Kelp Bed, the Otters posted their second–lowest turnover total of the season. But they also suffered through their second–coldest shooting night of season, allowing Cal State Stanislaus to pull away for a 70–52 victory.

CSUMB (2–12, 1–9 CCAA) came home for the first time in a month fresh off a 52.4 percent shooting night at UC San
MBB Stats-Stanislaus 1
Diego. Friday, the Otter starting five combined to shoot 10-for-38 from the field (26.3 percent), and that, in a nutshell, told the Otter tale.

The game was there for the taking until the closing minutes of the first half, when Stanislaus used an 11–2 spurt to take a 43–26 lead into intermission. While the Otters have made some dramatic comebacks this season, one wasn't in the cards this night as CSUMB never got closer than 17 points in the second half.

Junior guard Brandon Ward (Riverside/Woodcrest HS) led CSUMB with 13 points. The Otters also got eight points from Troy Watkins Riverside/Woodcrest HS) while junior center Jaron Devine (Pomona HS) continued his recent run of solid play with seven points and four rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench.

Dan Daviess hit four three-pointers as part of his game-high 18 points for Stanislaus (10–5, 6–5).

CSUMB returns to action Saturday, hosting Chico State in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off that is the nightcap of men's/women's doubleheader action. Fans that can't make the game can listen live on KION 1460 AM and watch live at www.OtterAthletics.com. Rob Ponce and John Berlin will call the action live from courtside.
