BOX SCORE

LA JOLLA, Calif. — For about 16 minutes, the No. 24 Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team had No. 2 UC San Diego squarely in its sights. But UCSD got hot just as CSUMB went cold, allowing the Tritons to roar back from an 11-point deficit to take a 91-63 win Friday night in RIMAC Arena.

CSUMB (11-2, 8-1 CCAA) came out on fire, needing just 6:11 to open an 11-point lead at 17-6. But UCSD (16-0, 10-0) chipped away before ending the first half with a slim 35-31 lead.
The roof caved in on the Otters as the second half began. CSUMB picked up five fouls before the half was four minutes old, drawing the first technical foul of the season from Otter Head Coach Renee Jimenez. That helped UCSD on its 15-2 run to open the period. The Otter offense, meanwhile, simply

couldn't find its range, shooting an anemic 28.1 percent from the floor in the second half as they never got closer than 20 points over the final nine minutes.

Senior guard Erika Ward (Simi Valley/Royal HS) hit five three pointers to account for her team-high 15 points Saturday. Senior wing Brandi Stephens (Sacramento/El Camino HS) added 13 points.
Emily Osga led four Tritons in double figures with 22 points, playing 36 minutes while Chelsea Carlisle added a 16-point, 10-assist double-double in 31 minutes with both starters padding their stats against the Otter reserves in the closing minutes. Lauren Freidenberg added an 18-point, 15-rebound double-double for the Tritons.

CSUMB returns home from its five-game trip to host Cal State Stanislaus Friday, Jan. 20, and Chico State Saturday, Jan. 21. Both games tip-off at 5:30 p.m. as the opening games of men's/women's doubleheader action.
