LA JOLLA, Calif. — The young Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team hadn't seen a result like Friday's all season. Of course, the Otters hadn't faced the No. 2 ranked team in the nation before Friday either.

Second-ranked UC San Diego put the pressure on from the opening kickoff, scoring two goals in the first 16 minutes en route to a 5-0 win Friday evening on the Triton Soccer Field.

Junior Diana Zambrano made a season-high seven saves, but she faced a season-high 20 shots by the Tritons. The Otters, meanwhile couldn't solve the complex puzzled provided by the UCSD defense and managed just three shots for the game.

Sarah McTigue scored the only goal the Tritons would need in the 12th minute, finishing a near post corner for her fifth goal of the season. Courtney Capobianco added a pair of goals, the last just 10 seconds from time, to pace the UCSD attack.

Lauren Acker, Marlina Massagli and Jessica Pardo accounted for the three CSUMB shots.
CSUMB (2-6-0, 1-6-0 CCAA) will look to return to the left side of the ledger when it travels up I-15 to face Cal State San Bernardino Sunday at 2 p.m.
