Otters hit the road to UCSD and Cal State San Bernardino

FULL RELEASE IN PDF FORMAT

SEASIDE, Calif. -- Even though 13th–ranked Cal State Stanislaus rode a pair of second half goals to a 2–0 victory Sunday at the Otter Sports Complex, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team had a number of positives to take out of the game after the pair of admittedly flat performances that preceded it.

“We competed and grew as a team,” said Head Coach Erin Reinke after the Stanislaus match. “It was fun to watch the team play as hard as they did. We were better in the offensive third than we had been (and) we were right there with one of the best teams in our conference.”

The Otters (2–5–0, 1–5–0 CCAA) will have their work cut out for them if they are to snap their three–match skid Friday, traveling to No. 3 UC San Diego (6–0–2, 5–0–1) to begin a Southern California road swing. The Otters will then head up I–15 to tackle Cal State San Bernardino (2–5–1, 0–5–1) Sunday before returning home to meet the west region's current No. 4 ranked team, Cal Poly Pomona, Oct. 7 at the Otter Sports Complex.

THIRD TIME'S A CHARM: The Otters will be looking for their third and fourth wins of the season with matches eight and nine on the docket this weekend. Prior to this season, the earliest they've ever claimed their third victory was the 11th match of the 2007 season.

For the record, the earliest win No. 4 has come was match 13 of 2007.

ROAD SWEET ROAD: The Otters are taking to the road this weekend, and that may be a good thing, considering the team's two wins this season have come away from the Otter Sports Complex. That's a bit surprising considering the Otters had lost 10 straight on the road prior to the season opening win at William Jessup and were just 2–25–2 on the road prior to opening the 2011 campaign 2–1 away from home.
