ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team couldn't sustain a quick start as Sonoma State roared back to take a 3–0 decision Sunday afternoon in Rohnert Park.
The Otters got the first two shots in the match with junior forward
Marlina Massagli (Alta Loma/Los Osos HS) having her first attempt saved and her second one blocked. But the Sonoma defense clamped down from that point, allowing CSUMB just one more shot for the balance of the match.
The Otter defense kept things on equal footing until Sonoma's Bree Robles finished a set piece just past the half hour for the game's first score. Senior forward Taylor Edmonds doubled the Seawolf advantage shortly after the interval before Katie Parucha closed the scoreline just 22 seconds from full time.
CSUMB dips to 2–3–0 overall and 1–3–0 in CCAA play with Sunday's result. Sonoma State improved to 2–3–1 and 2–1–1.
The Otters return to action Friday (Sept. 23) when they hosts Chico State in the second match of a men's/women's doubleheader. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
