Game Ending Single Earns Split With Seawolves

SEASIDE, Calif
. – Senior Shae Olds hit a walk-off single to force a series split with Sonoma State on Saturday as the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team won the nightcap 5-4.  The Otters dropped game one 2-1.

With the split, the Otters are 20-23 overall and 13-14 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.

Junior #Jackie Serena# and sophomore #Angelina Orozco# each had solo home runs.

The Otters travel to Arcata on Monday to make up their rained out four-game series against Humboldt State.

Serna blasted her eighth homer of the season to lead off the second inning, putting the Otters up 1-0.

In the third inning, the Seawolves knotted the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly by Rochelle Vanyi that scored Danielle Lowe.

Sonoma State scored the game winning run in the fourth Palermo's single through the middle. 


SSU's Sam Lippard notched the win while freshman #Kylie Linnane# recorded the loss.

The Seawolves took a quick 1-0 lead in their first at bat, scoring on a sacrifice fly.

CSUMB's bat exploded in the bottom of the inning, recording three runs on five hits.  Orozco led off with a walk and moved to second on sophomore Skylar Valdivia's bunt single.  Junior #Jamie Moon#'s single up the middle loaded the bases, but Orozco scored on a miss played ball by Sonoma State's center fielder. Back-to-back singles by Olds and Serna scored two more runs for the Otters.

Orozco's slap hit in the top of the second went over the right field wall for her second home run of the season, raising CSUMB's lead to 4-1.

Sonoma State's Skylynn Myers hit a two-run homer to cut the gap to 4-3. 

The Seawolves once again scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4.

Moon led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple off the center field wall.  Olds RBI single through middle clinched the victory for the Otters.

Junior Caitlin Wallace earned the win in relief to even her record at 3-3.
