TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team fell in the semi-finals of the silver bracket in the Tournament of Champions to Hawaii-Hilo, 6-3, on Sunday morning.
The Vulcans took a one run lead in their first at-bat on Brittany Spencer's bases-loaded RBI bunt down the third base line.
CSUMB evened the game in its side of the frame when junior #Jamie Moon# singled, stole second and scored on senior #Shae Olds#' single through the left side.
UH Hilo took the lead once again in the second inning on Tessa Truong's 2 RBI double and added two more in the fourth.
Olds hit a leadoff homer in the fourth inning to raise her season total to ten. With this home run, Olds has tied the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) career record with 41 homers.
Junior #Jackie Serena# tripled to left field corner and scored on #Shannon Bailey#'s single up the middle to cut the gap to 5-3 UH Hilo.
The Vulcans added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a CSUMB error.
The Otters host Sonoma State in their final conference series at home on April 8-9. On Saturday, CSUMB will honor its five seniors; #Shae Olds#, #Channing Peebles#, #Diane Ortiz#, #Lisa Hernandez# and #Shannon Bailey#.
