CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team saw their 2011 season end with a 9-3 victory and a pitching duel between senior #Diane Ortiz# and Chico State's Jessica McDermott with the Otters coming up short, resulting in a 1-0 decision in the 10th inning.
Junior #Jackie Serna# and sophomore #Angelina Orozco# recorded a team-high four hits each on the day.
Ortiz saw 12 innings of action on the mound today, recording six strikeouts and giving up only one run. She also picked up a save in the first game. Junior
Caitlin Wallace was the game one winner to raise her record to 5-4 on the season.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the second to only see it disappear in the next frame as the Otters responded with Serna's two-out RBI single.
The Otters would go on to post two runs in the each of the last four innings. Senior #Channing Peebles# tripled to right center in the fourth, pushing two runs across the plate. In the fifth, senior
Shae Olds crushed a RBI double to left center and senior #Shannon Bailey# followed with a RBI single. Ortiz stepped up in the sixth for the Otters, connecting on a 2 RBI single to center field. The Otters concluded the offense explosion with two runs on Orozco's single to left field.
The Coyotes final two runs came in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and a two-out single.
CSUMB outhit Chico State, 15-10.

Compared to the first game, the night cap was dominated by the pitchers who combined for 14 strikeouts and 9.5 scoreless innings.
