Otters Clinch First Series Of 2011

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay softball squad pulled off a split in today's doubleheader against the Cal State Dominguez Hills to win the four-game series 3-1.  The Toros took game one 7-0 and the Otters came back with a two-out rally in the sixth to take the closer, 4-3.

Junior #Jackie Serna# and #Jamie Moon# along with sophomore #Skyler Valdivia# each had two hits on the day for the Otters.

The Otters return to the road next weekend, traveling to San Francisco State for another four-game series.

CSUDH's starting pitcher Lauren Harper threw a three-hit complete game four her fifth victory of the season.  The Toros posted two runs in the third inning only to follow with three runs in the fifth.  They added two final runs in their final at-bat. Daisy Beltran, Krista Gould and Khryssi Steele each had doubles for the Toros.

Serna had a double while Moon and junior Audriana Gutierrez had singles for CSUMB.

Senior Shae Olds crushed her seventh home run of the season, knocking it off the scoreboard in the second inning.  

The Toros answered with Gould's double down the left line to score two runs in the next frame.

After three scoreless innings, the Otters rallied in the bottom of the sixth.  Serna had a ground rule double over center field.  Olds drew an intentional walk. Gutierrez doubled to the left field wall to score Serna. Senior #Shannon Bailey# connected on a sacrifice fly to add an insurance run at 4-2.  

The Toros attempted a comeback in top of the seventh. Steele scored on a bases loaded ground out and Brittany Brenner followed suit for the final out of the game to end it at 4-3.

Freshman #Kylie Linnane# notched her third win of the season, limiting the Toros to four hits and striking out three batters.
