Heurung's Last-Second Shot Clinches 60-58 Victory

HAYWARD, Calif.
– Last second shot by senior #Julie Heurung# puts the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament Finals. Otters  record 60-58 victory over Cal State San Bernardino.  

Heurung finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and one blocked shot.  Senior #London Houchin# and junior #Shonetta Crain-Williams# each added 12 points.  Sophomore #Holly Holcomb# also pulled down nine rebounds.  

The Otters trailed throughout the first half with San Bernardino biggest leading coming eight minutes into the game on a jumper by Kymberly Ooten at 12-5.

Seconds before the halftime break, CSUMB battled back to even the score at 27-27 on a lay-up by Houchin.

CSUMB held the lead for the first eight minutes of the second half until CSUSB's Eisha Sheppard drove to the basket for two.  The Coyotes extended their lead to five on another jumper by Sheppard to make it 46-41 with 9:16 remaining.

The Otters came roaring back with a 10-1 run capped on Heurung's jumper with five minutes on the clock. CSUMB held the lead for the next four minutes until Sheppard once again came up big for the Coyotes, tying it up at 58-58 with twenty-two seconds on the clock.  

After sophomore #Jessica Fontenette# ran some time off the clock, she passed it to Santizo who dished it off to Heurung down low for a shot in the paint. Heurung missed the first shot, grabbed the rebound and put it back on the glass for a buzzer-beating basket.

The Coyotes were led by Sheppard's game-high 25 points and Sabrina Gonzalez's 10 rebounds.

The Otters will face Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the CCAA Tournament finals.
