Otters Split Twinbill With SF State

SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team pulled off a split with San Francisco State on Friday afternoon. The Otters dropped game one 3-1 before taking the Gators in the closer, 5-1.

Sophomore #Angelina Orozco# drove in three runs on two hits which included a double. Seniors #Shae Olds# and #Diane Ortiz# each added two hits on the day. Ortiz picked up the victory after striking out four batters and allowing only one run.

CSUMB concludes the series tomorrow afternoon with a double-header beginning at noon.

The Otters jumped on the board first in the opening inning.  Olds singled to drive in Orozco who leadoff the inning with a short single to the pictcher.

The fourth inning proved to be CSUMB's downfall as SF State took advantage of a walk and an error. Alyssa Esquibel hit a bases-loaded double to clear the bases.

Freshman #Kylie Linnane# took the loss for the Otters.

Game 2: CSUMB 5, SF State 1

The Otters capitalized on three SF State errors in the third inning, scoring a run after Ortiz leadoff with a single.

CSUMB turned the tables this game in the fourth, putting up four runs on three hits and 1 SF State error. Olds hit a leadoff single and was replaced by pinch runner #Skylar Valdivia#, who advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior #Jackie Serna#.  Valdivia advanced to third on a line out to right and #Danielle Onken# was granted first after being hit by a pitch. Ortiz's single had everyone changing places and plating Valdivia. Junior #Caydi Dommeyer# reached on an error by SF State's second baseman and Onken scored. Orozco's double brought Dommeyer and Ortiz across the plate to end the scoring of the inning at 5-0. 

SF State's lone run came in the sixth inning when Kendra Wood homered to right center.
