LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 25 Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team had its worst shooting performance of the season, falling to UC San Diego 58-48 on Saturday night at RIMAC Arena.
Senior #LaShawn Johnson# led all scorers with 16 points and senior #Michelle Santizo# adding 11 points.
Seniors #London Houchin# and
Julie Heurung pulled down eight rebounds apiece.
CSUMB shot only 17-for-60 (28.3 percent) from the field and were 8-for-30 from behind the 3-point line.
The Otters recorded six blocked shots with Heurung finishing with three.
CSUMB trailed by as much as 16 points (25-9) in the first half before closing the gap to 31-22 at the break.
A 10-5 run topped by Santizo's 3-pointer put the Otters within four points with 14 minutes remaining.
The Tritons cushioned their lead back to double digits at 8:37 on Erin Grady's jumper to make it 49-37.
The Otters staged another rally at the 3:41 mark on Johnson's third 3-pointer of the game, 53-47.
The game then came down to free throw shots with UCSD connecting on just 5-for-12 which was enough for the victory.
UCSD was led by senior Chelsea Carlisle's 15 points and Daisy Feder's 13 rebounds.
The Otters travel to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
