PHOENIX – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team racked up a 7-3 victory over Western New Mexico this morning before falling 5-2 to No. 23 Midwestern State in extra innings.
CSUMB's bats continued to be hot as they out-hit their opponents today 18-13 with three home runs, a triple and a double. Sophomores #Skyler Valdivia# and #Angelina Orozco# along with junior #Jackie Serna# finished with four hits a piece today.

In the first inning, the Mustangs scored three runs with the Otters responding with four in the bottom.
Valdivia singled and scored on a passed ball. After junior #Jamie Moon# and senior #Shae Olds# hit back-to-back singles, Serna hit a three-run homer to put the Otters up 4-3.
With two outs, Orozco tripled and scored on an error by WNMU's second baseman to make it 5-3 CSUMB.
The Mustangs put up a run in the fifth before Olds went yard for the second time in three games, scoring two insurance runs.
In seven innings of work, senior #Diane Ortiz# stuck out six batters while walking six and giving up four runs.

The first four innings proved to be a pitching duel between freshman
Kylie Linnane and MSU's senior Kristina Gutierrez. The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead on two hits, scoring on fielder's choices both times.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Otters tied it at 2-2 when Moon hit a two-run homer after Valdivia led off with a single.
MSU's McKenzie Sickler hit a three-run homer to take the victory.
