LA JOLLA, Calif. - Sophomore #Davion Berry# scored 34 points to led the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team to a 70-60 victory over UC San Diego on Saturday night at the RIMAC Arena.
Sophomore #Brandon Ward# finished with 14 points and three steals. Sophomore #Derrick Anderson# grabbed eight boards while dishing out four assists. Sophomore #James Albert# and Berry added six rebounds apiece.
The Otters trailed most of the first half, taking a 31-23 deficit into the locker room.
CSUMB came out of break with a new energy, cutting away the Triton's lead with strong shooting. Back-to-back three pointers by freshman
James Thomas and Ward cut the gap to 43-42 UCSD. Senior #Darroll Phillips#'s jumper at 9:09 gave the Otters their first lead of the second half at 46-45. A 16-7 run gave CSUMB a double-digit cushion with 2:53 remaining and the Otters cruised to its third consecutive win.
CSUMB took advantage of UC San Diego's 14 turnovers by converting 20 points on the opportunities. The Otters lost the battle of the board to the Tritons, 49-41.
The Otters concludes its four-game road trip next weekend, taking on the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, Feb. 11, followed by a match-up against Cal State L.A. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Tip-off for both games is 7:30 p.m.
