HAYWARD, Calif.
– The No. 25 Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team's defense proved tonight why it was No. 1 in the nation in defense, holding the Cal State East Bay Pioneers to only nine points in the second half.  The Otters recorded a 52-21 victory over the Pioneers tonight in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.

CSUMB set a new CCAA record by allowing only 21 points in a single game.  The previous record was set on Feb. 26, 1999 when Sonoma State defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 60-26.

The Otters picked up their 18th victory of the season, tying a program-best set last year. CSUMB is now 18-1 overall and 14-1 in conference action while the Pioneers fell to 2-17, 2-13 in CCAA play.

Senior #LaShawn Johnson# scored a game-high 12 points, connecting on four 3-pointers in a six minute span in the second half. Senior #London Houchin# contributed 11 points and three assists.  Senior #Michelle Santizo# pulled down a game-best eight rebounds with senior #Julie Heurung# and junior #Shonetta Crain-Williams# grabbing six and five respectively.

After a dismal first half shooting (18.8 percent), the Otters offense caught fire with a 11-for-18 (61.1 percent) performance from the field.  CSUMB scored 36 of their 52 points in the second half.

CSUEB's Azizi Dotson led all scorers with eight points, scoring them all in the first half.

The Otters will go for their 19th victory of the season on Saturday, Feb. 5 when they take on the Tritons of UC San Diego.  Earlier this season, CSUMB won a double overtime thriller at the Kelp Bed, 92-91.
