Otters Clinch Conference Title

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The No. 22 Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team clinched at the very least a shared 2010-2011 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title tonight with a 54-48 victory over Chico State.  

A win against Cal State Stanislaus tomorrow night would make CSUMB the lone conference champion, making program history by bringing home its first basketball title.

The Otters improved to 23-2 overall and 19-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play while the Wildcats dropped to 14-11, 11-0 in conference action.

Senior #London Houchin# led all scorers with 18 points. Junior #Shonetta Crain-Williams# scored all 12 of her points in the second half.  Senior #Julie Heurung# pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds on top of her six points.  Sophomore #Jessica Fontenette# dished out four assists and grabbed four steals.

The Wildcats were led by Jazmine Miller's 14 points and four assists.  Analise Riezebos and Pauline Ferrall each added eight points.

The Otters close out the regular season on Friday, Feb. 25, hosting Cal State Stanislaus at 5:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the team will honor its four seniors; #Julie Heurung#, #London Houchin#, #LaShawn Johnson# and #Michelle Santizo#.

Following Friday's game against Cal State Stanislaus, CSUMB  will open the first round of the CCAA postseason tournament at the Kelp Bed on Tuesday, Mar. 1. If the Otters win, they'll advance to the next round at Cal State East Bay, where the semifinals and final will be held on March 4 and 5.
