LOS ANGELES – The Cal State Monterey Bay picked up its 20th victory by completing a series sweep against Cal State L.A. on Saturday night at the Eagles Nest. The Otters recorded a 66-56 victory over the Golden Eagles.
"This was a huge milestone for our young program," said head coach #Renee Jimenez#. "This group of young women continue to blaze their own trail in CSUMB history and raise the bar for the future teams in our program."
CSUMB remains in second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standing, just one-half game behind Cal Poly Pomona. The Otters once again proved why they are No. 1 in the nation in scoring defense, holding the Golden Eagles to 32.1 percent from the field while finishing at 51 percent.
Four Otters achieved double-digits with senior #London Houchin# and sophomore #Holly Holcomb# leading the way with 14 apiece. Holcomb pulled down a game-high six rebounds. Senior #Julie Heurung# contributed 12 points and four blocked shots while senior #LaShawn Johnson# added 11 points. Senior #Michelle Santizo# and sophomore #Jessica Fontenette# each dished out three assists.
The Otters went 8-for-16 from behind the arc with Holcomb connecting on half of them. Winning the battle of the boards, the Otters out-rebounded Cal State L.A. 35 to 31.
"I am extremely proud of their poise ad confidence they show night in and night out," Jimenez said. "The sky is the limit for these young women and myself and out staff are proud to coach them day in and day out."
The Otters host Sonoma State on Friday, Feb. 18 at the Kelp Bed. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
