SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team dropped both games of its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader on Friday afternoon to the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino. The final scores were 6-5 and 4-2.
Sophomore #Skyler Valdivia# led the Otters, hitting .375 (3-for-8) with two runs. Junior #Audriana Gutierrez# hit a three-run homer in the opening game. Juniors #Jackie Serna# and #Jamie Moon# each added two hits.
The Otters face CSUSB again on Saturday, Feb. 12 in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
Game 1

Gutierrez crushed her three-run homer over the center field wall in the second inning to give the Otters a 3-0 lead. The Otters added two more runs in the third inning off three hits and a CSUSB error.
The Coyotes rallied back in the third inning, posting three runs on two back-to-back triples.
In the fifth frame, CSUSB tied the game at 5-5 on two hits and a CSUMB error.
CSUSB's Alyssa Flores hit a two-out walk-off single to end the game at 6-5 in the seventh inning.
Freshman #Kylie Linnane# took the loss after giving up four earned runs on eight hits. Cassidy Lee recorded the win after 4.2 inning, allowing no runs and two hits.

After CSUSB took a 2-0 lead in the second, the Otters evened out the score by posting a run in both the fourth and fifth innings. Senior #Diane Ortiz# hit a RBI double with two outs to put the Otters on the board. CSUMB's second run was scored as a result of two CSUSB errors.
The Coyotes scored the winning and insurance run in the sixth inning on Jacquelyn Holtzclaw's single to left center.
Ortiz took the loss after giving up three earned runs and allowing nine hits. Lee picked up her second win of the day, with no earned runs and striking out four CSUMB hitters.
