SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team ran its winning streak to five games, overcoming a listless start with a strong second half to put away Cal State Dominguez Hills 71–51 Monday night in The Kelp Bed.

Junior forward Brittani Jefferson (Palmdale/Quartz Hill HS) came off the bench to lead CSUMB by posting the second Otter double–double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Thanks in large part to her efforts, CSUMB grabbed a season–high 51 rebounds, its second consecutive 50–rebound game.

After leading wire–to–wire in their previous two wins, the Otters actually found themselves trailing 15–14 midway through the first half. While they quickly retook the lead on a Stefanie Corgel (Manhattan Beach/UCSB) three, Dominguez Hills kept the lead in the six–point range until midway through the second half, when a Brandi Stephens (Sacramento/El Camino HS) three ignited a 17–4 burst that got the lead to 58–39. Dominguez Hills would never threaten again.

In addition to Jefferson, Erika Ward (Simi Valley/Royal HS) led all players with 14 points and five assists. Corgel added a career–high four steals to help CSUMB improve to 7–1 overall and 4–0 in the CCAA.

Sherrie Hughes and Ashley Hudson led CSUDH (1–11, 0–5) with 11 points apiece.

The Otters will join the rest of the CCAA in taking time off for winter break. They return to action Friday, Dec. 30 with a trip to Hayward to battle Cal State East Bay. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
