SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team led wire–to–wire for the second consecutive game, this time holding CCAA foe Cal State L.A. at arm's length for a 71–60 victory Sunday afternoon in The Kelp Bed.

CSUMB (6–1, 3–0 CCAA) scored the first five points, built a 15–point lead by intermission and kept the lead in double digits for all but 10 seconds of the final 28:23 in cruising to its 10th consecutive CCAA win.

Junior guard Stefanie Corgel (Manhattan Beach/UCSB/Marlborough HS) led all scorers with a career–high 20 points for the Otters. Brandi Stephens (Sacramento/El Camino HS) added 19 points while senior forward Shonetta Crain–Williams (Oakland/El Cerrito HS) grabbed a game–high 10 rebounds in her first appearance of the season.

The game was still within six points at 16–10 midway through the first half when a short Jenna Bandy (Thousand Oaks HS) jumper kick–started an 11–0 run that put the Otters in control at 27–10. The CSUMB lead would not dip below 10 points again until Lacy Ramon's 15–footer brought CSLA to within 67–59 with 2:47 to play. But Corgel followed with a pair of free throws on CSUMB's next possession and the lead remained in double digits for the duration.

Ramon came off the bench to lead CSLA (4–4, 2–2) with 16 points and nine rebounds. Jazzi Johnson added 12 points and matched Ramon's nine boards.

CSUMB returns to action for its final game before the break, hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills Monday in the first game of a men's/women's doubleheader. Women's tip–off is at 5:30 p.m.
