Brittani Jefferson tied the CSUMB single-game record with 10 field goals in the win over Simpson University.
BOX SCORE
SEASIDE, Calif. — Junior forward
Brittani Jefferson (Palmdale/Quartz Hills HS) tied a school record with 10 field goals as part of her season–high 21 point effort, leading the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team to an 86–55 win over visiting Simpson University Saturday night in The Kelp Bed.
Jefferson tied Janet Oseguera's record set in a win over William Jessup University on Dec. 13, 2008. She helped the Otters tie the school record for largest margin of victory at 31 points set twice previously, last in a 52–21 win at Cal State East Bay on Feb. 5. The 86 points scored by the Otters ranks No. 3 on the CSUMB all–time list while their 21 assists rank No. 2.
Unsurprisingly, CSUMB (5–1 overall) never trailed in this game, although SImpson (4–10) stayed close for the first few minutes. The Otters led just 13–9 a little more than three minutes in before using an 11–2 run to push their advantage to 24–11 midway through the half. The lead would never dip into single figures again.
Stefanie Corgel (Manhattan Beach/UCSB) sank a late three pointer to give the Otters a 56–28 lead at the half. A
Brandi Stephens (Sacramento/El Camino HS) layup midway through the second half gave them their biggest lead of the night at 38 points (79–41) before the Otter reserve forces came in to protect the record–tying final margin.
In addition to Jefferson, Corgel was the only other Otter to reach double figures, finishing with 12 points. Junior guard
Jessica Fontenette (Chino Hills/Bishop Amat) added a career–high six rebounds while matching her career–high with six assists.
Bekah Eppler led Simpson with 12 points while Kaity Hahn pitched in 11.
CSUMB returns to CCAA action next week, hosting Cal State L.A. Sunday (Dec. 18) and Cal State Dominguez Hills Monday (Dec. 19) as part of men's/women's doubleheader action. Note that the Cal State L.A. game tips off at 1 p.m.
