Otters Blow Out Golden Eagles, 71-41

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team was victorious against Cal State L.A. in a 71-41 win on Friday night at home.

The Otters improve to 11-0 overall and 7-0 against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents, while the Golden Eagles drop to  5-6, 2-5 in conference play. With Chico State's 73-53 loss to UC San Diego, CSUMB is the lone team on top of the CCAA standings.

Junior #Shonetta Crain-Williams# led the team with 14 points while pulling down two rebounds. Senior  #LaShawn Johnson# and junior #Brandi Stephens# added 11 points and three rebounds a piece. Sophomore #Holly Holcomb# finished with a team-high seven rebounds.

The Otters went 25-for-50 from the field while holding CSULA to 34.2 percentage (13-for-38).

Just over 11 minutes into the game, the Otters went on a 15-0 run to achieve a 34-13 advantage with 3:45 on the clock.

At halftime, the score was 39-19 CSUMB.

The Golden Eagles came within 14 points on a free throw by Karmen Gunn, 54-40.

CSUMB answered with 11-0 run to cruise to a 71-41 win.

CSULA was led by Shatori Dearman's 17 points and Gretchen Teirnan's 10 points.

The Otters host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
